It's never to late to achieve your potential or fulfilling baseball dreams!

I know some players and their parents are concerned that it’s too late to change hitting or pitching mechanics when their ballplayer is older. For example, a sophomore, junior or senior in high school. I will tell you no, it’s not too late. But instead of me telling you, I’ll have you read the below testimonials of Scott Evenson, and his sons, twin brothers Alex & Justin Evenson, relating to their impressive improvement in their baseball skills, hard work, and dedication to the sport of baseball.

Scott Evenson (Alex & Justin's father)

We have been a baseball family since the boys were old enough to hold a bat or glove. We have used various other resources around the metro over the years i.e. Player’s Only, Batting Cages etc. The issue, in each instance the consistency factor was never able to be achieved. It was too hard to try and schedule with one instructor and each time we seemed to work with someone new. Each in general had the same philosophy but were unable to get to know a player and build upon their knowledge to keep developing them individually.

We were introduced to Bill Berg (The Swing Doctor) by two different families who had worked with him for a number of years. The chance to work with one person who could build their proven system into the two boys was worth trying. Alex broke his leg and missed most of the 2015 season. In late July of 2015 both Alex & Justin began working in earnest with Bill to get ready for the 2016 season. They worked through the fall until hockey season began and then starting again in January in preparation for their high school teams trip to Florida for spring break.

Alex is a very good hitter, but could be “streaky” at most times probably averaging around .320-.350 for the most part. Justin was a good hitter, but lacked confidence and consistency had probably averaged about .300.

The first chance to really see how effective Bill’s instruction would be was with both boys would be their 2016 high school season. For Alex it would be a story book season. He hit .489, had 45 hits and 39 RBI’s in 30 games breaking school records in most hits and most RBI’s in a season and a top 5 all- time record for batting average. Maybe his biggest accomplishment was that in the 30 games he had at least one hit in 27 of those games and only struck out 3 times for the entire year….now that is consistency at its finest.

Justin finished the season hitting .338 and finished in the top 5 for most hits and RBI’s. That was his highest batting average at the most competitive level he has played.

Alex and Justin continued to see Bill consistently throughout the season for tune-ups and to continue to build upon what they had begun learning both mentally and physically teaching their bodies “muscle memory”. Professional ball players work with hitting instructors almost daily and watch video tapes of themselves as things and adjustments change and having an objective teacher see things that they cannot.

So as the father of two sons who were between their high school sophomore and junior years, It is never too late to begin in earnestly working with Bill…do we wish we had begun earlier with him…for sure. But we are making the most of our time with him and as for the outcome….well it speaks for itself.

Alex - Bill has helped me with both my hitting and pitching,
but we have have spent much more time with him on hitting
because of scheduling etc. He has helped me achieve goals
and stats I never thought I could have. With my having missed
my entire sophomore year because of a broken leg. I had a lot
of time and one whole season to try and make up for. Coach
Bill taught me a consistent approach to hitting to helping me
use all parts of my body to maximize my bat velocity. The key
was working with him consistently and then taking what we
learned into games. Bill is great to work with and truly cares
about us as ball players. He attended a few of our games even
though they were not close in proximity to him. The result was
I had a dream season both at the plate and on the mound and
being part of both a high school state tournament championship
as well as a Legion state champion.  My success has opened up
doors to play baseball after high school and also means my dad
is going to support Bill as I will continue to work with him as
much as I can! I never would have accomplished what I did
without Bill’s guidance and support. He is my “Swing Doctor’!

(NOTE: After Alex’s 2015 high school, districts, state championship, and legion season and championships, he has attracted interest from over a handful of respected D-1 college baseball programs.)

Justin - Bill brought a consistency to my style and stance that I had not used in previous years. In the past if I was in a slump I would change my bat, stance, gloves and pregame ritual trying to find a solution to working out of the slump. With Bill he preached to stay with the system, teach your body how to maximize all parts of it and maintain consistency in each at bat knowing that failure is a big part of hitting.

Bill is genuinely interested in us as players and takes great pride in watching us play and seeing his teaching “live” during a game. I had a great year as an individual and we were state champions both in the high school season and again in the Legion season. I would never have hit for the average I did or have as many “quality at bats” as I did listening and working with Bill. I will for sure stay with Bill until my baseball playing days are done.

Thanks Coach Bill for being part of a dream season for all of us!

Bill: Let me add, that besides their athleticism, Alex and Justin are two of the most respectful, focused, open to instruction, and willing to get worse before getting better as any players I’ve ever worked with. I know of nothing worth achieving that comes simply.

'What ballplayer doesn't dream of playing at Target Field and their name up on the scoreboard.
